Instead of my normal monthly article, for several months we will be featuring each of our 7 districts. Each 1 is a unique and special place to call home. We’ve also asked each board member from those districts to tell us a little about where they live and why they love being there. We hope you enjoy this series! — Jason Clemmons, CEO
District 3 covers a large section of our territory, from Henryville along the I-65 corridor to Borden in the west. Some of the most beautiful views in the area can be found there, especially near the fire tower at the Clark State Forestry. Board President and District Three Director John Biesel shares a few of his favorite things about District Three for this month’s issue:
What Local Events or Traditions in Your District Do You Look Forward to Every Year?
Our volunteer fire department sets up booths and has a parade every year. You get to see people there you want to connect with that you wouldn’t see otherwise. The Henryville Annual Community Day and Fireman’s Parade happens each September.
Can You Share a Hidden Gem in Your District That More People Should Know About?
The Clark State Forest is in my district. It is a great place with many areas for family gatherings, such as picnics and reunions. REMC even held a community day there. It is a gem that I think people don’t take enough advantage of.
How Do You Stay Connected With the Community While Serving in Your Role?
I attend events in my district and everyone else’s district when I can. I go to have fun and enjoy myself and to connect with the people, whether they are members or just people from the community.
