Your Safety Is Our Top Priority

It’s Thursday, April 3, and the management team and I have been closely monitoring severe weather and flooding forecasts for the past several days. 1 question has been front and center all week: What should we do about the Jamboree on Saturday?
After careful consideration, we made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event. I want to share how we reached that decision.
Let me be clear — I am confident our employees would have delivered a safe and memorable Jamboree. It’s 1 of my favorite days of the year, and this year’s event was shaping up to be something truly special, capped off by a performance from a Grammy Award-winning group.
But no amount of planning or fun is worth risking the safety of our members and employees.
When we say safety is our top priority, we mean it. That doesn’t mean avoiding uncertain situations — after all, our linemen work near high-voltage electricity every day.
But it does mean we don’t take unnecessary risks. We make the best decision with the information we have. Based on forecasts and what we saw firsthand driving down Highways 31 and 160, it was clear — canceling was the right call.
While safety was the most important factor, it wasn’t the only 1. We also considered the kind of experience we want you to have — 1 that’s enjoyable, welcoming, and worry-free. Flood warnings, road closures, and lingering safety concerns simply don’t add up to the kind of event you deserve.
There will be more chances for fun and fellowship — for Bingo, bluegrass, and everything that makes the Jamboree special. Until then, thank you for your understanding and support.
