CEO’s Message – January 2023

What's in store for 2023

Jason Clemmons, CEO

It’s 2023, and I for one am excited for what’s in store at Clark County REMC. We have spent the last few months working with a national leader in technology planning, NRTC, to help us make the best use of the new technologies and systems out there. Much of this work will be happening behind the scenes, but I do want to share with you some of what we’ve been discussing these last few months.

The last major upgrade to our metering system was nearly 20 years ago, and the age of our system is starting to show.

For example, the electric meters we use now can’t alert us if your home is out of power. We rely on you to call us and let us know. Reliability is extremely important to us, and we certainly don't want our electric meters to start failing because of their age. We want to give you the best possible service, so as we look for a new metering system, a better member experience will be on the top of our list.

We are also reviewing every option to bring affordable, reliable internet through our service territory. Given our proximity to Louisville, many of our communities already have an internet provider on their street. But for areas where no service already exists, we are exploring options and partnerships to ensure that all 24,000 REMC members have access to the services they need, without jeopardizing REMC’s position as a strong and healthy utility.

These strategic priorities will take years to accomplish. Since you, the members of this cooperative, are also the owners of the business, we care too much about your money to invest it without thorough research and due diligence. But rest assured that work is being done. We are committed to being the best electric provider we can be, both now and for years to come.
