2 Major Themes From Member Feedback: Reliability & Affordability

Reliability

Member Quotes

“When outages occur, I feel like the team works hard to restore our power. Since I have been with REMC, there have been very few occurrences, and I always get a response as to how long we’ll be without power.”

“Good, reliable service. Any outages are communicated and repaired in a timely way.”

“Some issues like surges or brownouts seem to be more frequent, and there doesn’t seem to be a fix.”

What We Heard

Many members described Clark County REMC’s electric service as reliable and praised our employees for responding quickly when outages occur. Members also appreciated receiving updates about restoration progress and estimated restoration times.

At the same time, some members reported experiencing multiple outages, voltage fluctuations, or recurring issues in their areas. Even a short outage can be disruptive when you are working from home, operating a business, or simply spending time with your family.

Your feedback reinforces our goal: fewer outages, faster restoration, and better communication when the lights do go out.

How We're Responding

Providing reliable power is at the core of our mission. Clark County REMC continues to maintain and strengthen the electric system, replace aging equipment, and invest in technology that helps us identify problems and respond more quickly.

Restoring power requires the work of every department, from operations and engineering to IT, member services, and accounting. Day or night, weekdays or holidays, our employees are ready to safely restore service as quickly as conditions allow.

We have also improved our outage map and text notification system, with additional enhancements planned to provide members with clearer and more timely information during outages.

Over the coming months, we will share more about what has been causing outages across our system and the investments we are making to improve reliability. Reliable service is not something we take for granted. It is a standard our members deserve and 1 we are committed to delivering every day.

Affordability

Member Quotes

“The rates are fair, and when there is an outage, power is restored relatively quickly. There also seems to be a lot of community interest in how REMC gets involved and recognizes its employees.”

“The bill is somewhat high, especially in the winter months, but it is still affordable.”

“We strongly feel like our energy bills have been very high. I feel more like a customer than a member because we have no voice in the fact that our energy bill goes so up and down, even though our air stays at 72 and we use ceiling fans.”

What We Heard

Members continue to feel pressure from rising household costs, and no one wants to see a higher electric bill. Some members expressed concern about increasing rates, unpredictable monthly bills, and the challenge of managing energy expenses on a fixed income.

Others described Clark County REMC’s rates as fair or affordable and recognized the value of receiving dependable service, responsive outage restoration, and helpful communication.

As a member-owned cooperative, we understand these concerns because we live and work in the communities we serve. Our responsibility is to keep bills as affordable as possible while maintaining the reliable electric system our members depend on.

How We're Responding

Although a modest rate adjustment took effect earlier this year, it was our first rate increase in 4 years. Clark County REMC works throughout the year to carefully manage expenses, improve operational efficiency, and limit the need to ask members to pay more.

We also offer programs that can help members manage their monthly energy costs:

  • Budget Billing: Helps level monthly payments for more predictable budgeting.
  • Time-of-use Billing: Offers lower energy prices during designated off-peak periods.
  • Lend a Hand: Offered in partnership with local township trustees, assists qualifying members facing financial hardship.

We also provide energy-efficiency programs, rebates, and educational resources to help members better understand their energy use and identify opportunities to lower their bills.
