Payment & Energy Assistance

Clark County REMC works closely with Community Action (or CAP) agencies, as well as township trustees, to obtain assistance for our members who are having difficulties paying their electric bills. EAP is a low-income energy assistance program made available through the Indiana Division of Family and Children.

Resources to Help You With Energy Costs

Clark County REMC is aware of the financial hardships many families are facing. There are several resources available to help you pay your energy bills.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

  • LIHEAP is a federally funded grant program that helps low-income households meet their immediate home energy needs
  • The LIHEAP fund received a sizable allocation of new federal funds as part of the coronavirus stimulus program
  • LIHEAP funds are distributed through local Community Action Agencies (CAA)

  • All Indiana counties have intake offices
  • Contact the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority by calling (800) 872-0371 or online for a county-by-county directory

Payment Assistance & Seasonal Disconnect Protections

Certain members may qualify for temporary electric service disconnection protections under Indiana law if they are eligible and have applied for energy assistance through Indiana’s Energy Assistance Program (EAP).

Winter Protection

Clark County REMC will not disconnect residential electric service for eligible members who have applied for EAP assistance during the period of December 1 through March 15.

Extreme Heat Protection

Clark County REMC will not disconnect residential electric service on days when the National Weather Service 48-hour forecast indicates a heat index of 95°F or higher for eligible members who have applied for EAP assistance.

Township Trustees

From time to time, Township Trustees may be able to help with past-due electric bills. If you are not sure which township you belong to, please give us a call. Make sure to give yourself time to contact your trustee because you will need to make an appointment with them.
